Help Bring Hope to Nepal’s Flood-Affected Families

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, a massive mountain glacier collapse and debris flow triggered a sudden and devastating wall of water, mud, and rock through the Trishuli and Bhote Koshi river valleys in boarder of Tibet and Nepal.

The disaster has caused widespread destruction across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chituwan and downstream areas of the Trishuli River basin, destroying homes, roads, bridges, and livelihoods. Communities on both sides of the Nepal–Tibet border have been affected, with hundreds of people killed and thousands reported missing, displaced, homeless, or separated from their families and communities.

For many families, the immediate crisis is about survival—finding loved ones and securing food, safe shelter, clean drinking water, medicine, clothing, and other basic necessities.

Why This Disaster Is Personal to The Small World USA

The Small World USA is deeply rooted in the communities of Solukhumbu, Nepal, where we have worked for many years to support children’s education, child protection, and community development.

This tragedy is especially devastating for the Solukhumbu community as well . Because It is main season for the sacred Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage trip through Nepal-Tibet, and dozens of guides, porters, and tourism workers from Solukhumbu—many from communities closely connected to The Small World USA—are reported missing.

Tourism is a major part of Nepal’s Mountains communities economy and provides livelihoods for thousands of families in Solukhumbu and across the Everest region. Many of those affected were working in tourism when the disaster struck.

The Small World USA has a deeply grounded and trusted connection with these communities.

For years, these families have welcomed our volunteers and donors into their homes and communities. They have shared countless cups of tea with us and generously shared their rich culture, traditions, and hospitality.

They have not simply welcomed us into their homes and communities—they have welcomed us into their hearts.

Many of the young people who grew up through The Small World’s USA programs have now graduated and become teachers, professionals, community leaders, and lifelong friends. Our relationship with these communities is built on years of trust, friendship, and shared experiences.

This gives us a responsibility to stand with them now.

* Clean and safe drinking water

* Medicine and basic health supplies

* Warm clothing and other necessities

We are carefully monitoring the situation and following government protocols. As the situation develops, The Small World USA will coordinate relief efforts with local governments, community leaders, and local partners to ensure assistance reaches families who need it most in right way.
