Hiking with a purpose

Donation protected
This summer I will be setting out to hike over 2,189 miles on the Appalachian Trail with my two dogs Kimbo and Sadie. This is a huge challenge and a lifelong dream.

As I set out to accomplish my dream, I want to give other young women the opportunity to find theirs. That is why, as I begin this journey, I will be raising awareness and support for Hurricane Island Outward Bound.

My goal is to raise a dollar for every mile that my dogs and I hike. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to provide a scholarship for a middle school girl to participate in the Outward Bound Maine Appalachian Backpacking Program. This program is unique, because it provides a way for girls to gain leadership skills, learn the value of teamwork and gain a sense of self and purpose.

Today, the social pressures girls face in middle school have grown exponentially. Studies show  that depression and anxiety rise dramatically for adolescent girls and that self-confidence spirals. Programs like outward bound, give girls the opportunity to recognize and celebrate their own strengths.

Maine holds a special place in my heart as it was the first place I fell in love with hiking. I am proud to be partnering with outward bound and hope you can help me by donating and sharing my mission. To follow my Appalachian Adventure and track my progress, check out my blog on the Trek .

Thank you.
