Helping Displaced Ukrainians and Children

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

 

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your kind support of Ukraine, in all its forms. It means a lot to the Ukrainian people and to us.

 

On February 24 at 4 a.m., Russia began bombing sleeping Ukrainian civilians. Their lives were turned upside down in just one day. The entire world is now watching as homes and cities are destroyed, causing tremendous suffering for many families, losing loved ones, and having to abandon their homes and flee the fighting. This page was created by Vlada Poliak from Toronto, Canada and organized with Vitaly Oksentyuk from Cherkasy, Ukraine, her cousin, to provide direct support to displaced Ukrainian children, struggling mothers and civilians in acute need, specifically in the Cherkasy region.

 

We are raising funds to help provide relocation assistance, shelter, food, and medicine to families whose homes were destroyed during this horrific time. Specifically, through Vitaly we are personally connected to Cherkasy Regional Orphanage. Located on Pilipenko 4 St. Cherkasy, Ukraine. This Orphanage shelters and cares for children from 1 month to 4 years old. There was an average of 15 children in this orphanage before the war, now the number is approaching 200 due to some losing their parents, and others having been given up for adoption as their parents could no longer feed them. Many Ukrainian citizens used to support this orphanage, but now with so many businesses destroyed or shut down, those same people are left with barely the ability to support themselves. It is becoming much harder to provide support for the kids in need of shelter, food, and love during this horrifying time.

 

It has also been increasingly difficult for the major humanitarian organizations to reach villages outside of Kiev with aid, and by getting funds directly to this area, we hope to increase the locals’ ability to fill this gap and ease pain and suffering.
