Help WWII Vet stay in his home

Tom Brokaw said “It is I believe, the greatest generation any society has ever produced.” We have a friend from the greatest generation that needs help. We are not going to tell you his name because there are too many people out there these days that would try to capitalize on his circumstances. We will call him “Sam”. Sam was born in 1928. He has survived the great depression, a world war, and a pandemic. Now all he wants to do is spend the rest of his time in the house that he and his wife raised their children. Due to physical disabilities, Sam can’t do that. He was a second class petty officer in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Tutuila and the USS Coral Sea during World War II. According to Veteran’s statistics, there are less than 7,500 WWII Veterans in Massachusetts and they are dying at the rate of almost 300 per day. We have an opportunity to thank one of these servicemen for protecting our country. After WWII, Sam served in the Korean War and then came back to Orange, Mass. and worked locally at Starrett Tool Company. Sam gave back to his community by volunteering for the Orange Fire Department where he made the rank of Captain. His wife died over 20 years ago and he loves his house full of memories, his neighborhood and his garden. We are willing to donate our time & energy to transform Sam’s house into the handicap accessible place he needs it to be, can you help too? We need contractors and plumbers willing to donate some time. We need money for materials, & prayers for a successful mission. Message the Trail Head Facebook page if you can donate. Checks can be dropped off at Trail Head and made out to the Tully City Council. We want to get this all done next month (July 2021). Trail Head and “Sam” thank you. Independence for the “greatest generation”, that is what we are going to do.
