Help With Travel Expense’s: Surgery for Baby Elora
Donation protected
2025 Update: As most know, in 2022 Elora went through a procedure to repair damages and an inguinal hernia. This was one of the hardest times for me as a new Mom trying to navigate the unknown medical world as well as learn how to adjust to my new role as a Mama.
Fast forward to 2025, Elora is now a bubbly, energetic three year old who recently recieved a LEVEL 3 diagnosis of Autism. Unfortunately, we recieved devastating news that the operation performed in 2022 had failed and her inguinal hernia has returned, requiring another surgery.....
2024 - Now has been anything but easy for our family as we've been handed the worst of luck from the universe and are still in a position of trying to catch up from Riley's medical costs and trips to Toronto for his pacemaker and appointments, now we've been handed this.
Our community, close friends and some family have been nothing but supportive and helpful in exploring and sharing resources, funding and support, but we are still sinking under the demand of everyday living and medical costs.
Elora and I leave today for CHEO to consult and plan her next operation. Please keep us in your thoughts and should you wish to contribute to the cost of traveling, you can do so here or reach out for my personal email.
We hope this time around will be easier and less hectic I'll keep everyone updated to the best of my ability.
2022 Hello.
My name is Mikayla Morrison, and I am the mom to a beautiful, blue eyed blessing, named Elora. Our sweet girl is just shy of four month’s old and already facing thing’s no mother wants to see for there child. Early in March, upon going to change Elora’s diaper, I discovered a golf ball sized lump protruding from the top of Elora’s lady bit’s. Like any mother, I freaked out, and made quick arrangements to bring Elora to the New Liskeard emergency department. After what felt like a lifetime of hearing her little cries bounce off the hospital walls, we were finally called in to a room to see the doctor. My husband and I had already made the assumption that our daughter was suffering from a hernia. But much to my disbelief, the doctor working the emergency department that night held not regard for my daughters well being, did not examine her properly, and told me to “return another day with a picture of what I was talking about when a doctor who dealt with babies would be in”…
For a few weeks I sensed maybe something was off with Elora because she was always so fussy, refusing to sleep, HATED being lied down and always seemed to be straining and uncomfortable but as an exhausted new mom, I just figured it was normal!
We’d had enough with the hospital in New Liskeard after there brutal treatment of us after my daughters delivery, now this. So we made the decision to seek help elsewhere. Thankfully my mother in law had come down from Timmin’s and met with us in New Liskeard, so because of her we decided to journey to Timmin’s and seek a second opinion. THANK GOD WE DID!
Elora was examined by the Doctor in the emergency department in Timmin’s and referred for an ultrasound a few days later, which we had to travel back to Timmin’s for from Elk Lake. The radiologist there discovered that Elora did in fact have an inguinal hernia, which was causing her severe discomfort, and when protruding was pulling her left ovary and other parts of her internals into the hernia.
Elora is looking at a surgery to repair the hernia, to what extend we don’t know. Because of the severity of this hernia, and her age, we expect that her surgery will take place within a few weeks if not less, and financially my family is struggling. My husbands hours have recently been reduced and I’m receiving the bare minimum from maternity leave after having Elora in December. We personally don’t have a vehicle to get to and from these appointments so we’ve had to rely on family and friends to get us back and fourth, and with current gas prices it’s drained what little money we’ve managed to hang on to. We know that everyone is struggling right now but if anyone could spare a little to help us save up for the upcoming cost of travel and accommodations we’d forever be grateful. We know for a fact that her surgery will be in one of two places, either Ottawa or Sick Kids in Toronto, but will receive confirmation later this week, either destination is too far for us to pull out of pocket and we will have to arrange transportation, accommodations and meals while away, not only for ourselves, but our driver. As well as things to make Elora comfortable like baby Tylenol and compression belts or anything else she may need.
I am not ready to face this, but little lady comes from a strong line of women. Please keep us in your thoughts and give this a share ❤️ Thank you! My email is [email redacted] if you’d like to go that route instead.
