Flooding on Oʻahu’s North Shore made my home unlivable and destroyed my vehicle.

The flooding came in two waves. The first took out my car — including the adaptive hand controls I rely on to drive. The second took out my living situation.

I want to be clear: many people have it worse than I do. Homes were fully lost, families displaced, and I’m incredibly grateful I wasn’t there. My street was underwater and people were being evacuated.

At the same time, this removed some of the essentials I rely on to live and work.

I’ve lost my housing, my vehicle, and about half of my belongings. I don’t have renter's flood insurance, and my car insurance claim is currently backlogged with no clear timeline.

My friends have been incredible — getting into the area, salvaging what they could, and moving my remaining belongings out of the disaster zone while I’ve been away competing in Australia. I’m really beyond grateful for them.

When I return, I’ll be staying with a friend in Honolulu — which I’m very thankful for — but I need to rebuild the basics so I can function day-to-day and get back to work.

As a wheelchair user, transportation isn’t optional. Without a vehicle, I can’t get to my clinic on the North Shore, which directly impacts my ability to work and support myself.
