Chances are, if you're reading this, you know me and are already aware of my current situation. So, the TLDR version is: I need surgery, I'm struggling financially, and I need help.
I am working with my insurance to try and figure out the exact cost of my surgery, but per a conversation today it's sounding like it will at least be $2,700 and likely more. I was told I should have a more comprehensive estimate this coming Tuesday, November 25th.
With that in mind, I'm hoping to raise $5,000 in total:
$3,000 to cover the surgery (more exact info coming soon)
$1,500 to help cover time off work for recovery
$500 to cover my mom's flight out to SLC to take care of me
I am asking for help as I really don't think I can handle taking on more debt than I already have. I have no savings account and no safety net, no wealthy family to ask for help. So, I'm turning to my community for support.
I know there are countless folks in need at this current time, so making this ask feels incredibly tender and difficult. If you're debating between contributing to my fundraiser or supporting other mutual aid endeavors and organizations doing the good work - please first support those efforts. And if you have more to give afterwards, consider supporting me.
I'll end with saying something I always say when I share mutual aid requests within my community and beyond - no amount is too small. $5-10 donations really add up and make a difference. In fact, this is how I'm mostly able to engage with mutual aid...is by making small donations when and where I'm able.
My surgery is Thursday, December 4th. I welcome any prayers, handwritten notes, and offerings anyone feels inclined to send my way.
If you've read this far, thank you for taking the time. May we all receive the care we inherently deserve. ❤️
Please consider sharing this with your wider communities.
xo,
Van
