Help us reach the start line and break records

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

Myself and Elin are planning on competing in the Round Britain and Ireland Race this May. I will be the youngest skipper (male or female) to ever compete in the race and we will be the youngest female duo in its history. I will be breaking the current record age of 21 set in 1988. It will start and end in Plymouth and has three mandatory stop overs at Galway, Lerwick and Blyth. It will be around 2000 nautical miles and takes place just once every 4 years. We must also complete a 300 mile passage in order to qualify.

Once entered into the race, we will be raising money and awareness for a charity close to both our hearts, the Alzheimer’s Society. We decided on this charity as we and our families have both been very closely affected by the disease and thought the best way to honour our late grandparents was to dedicate this race to them. Unfortunately, Elin lost her Grandad, Michael Jones, and I lost both my Grans, Jean Boorman and Jean White to Dementia, most recently this January.  Find out how the Alzheimer's Society provide vital help and support to those affected by Dementia by clicking this link Alzheimer's Society - United Against Dementia (alzheimers.org.uk)

Of course, we wouldn’t be entering a race like this without experience or qualifications. I am a Yachtmaster Offshore with experience skippering in Mediterranean, Western European and British waters. I have sailed since I was very young so it has become second nature to me to be at sea and at the helm. Elin has a very similar background with Day Skipper and over 3000nm under her belt. We were in both the Welsh and British Topper Squads together.

To be able to do this race, we are fundraising and looking for sponsorship to get essential safety gear to keep us alive including:
- Handheld VHF
- Nautical Almanac for 2022
- Navigational charts for British and Irish waters
- Offshore first aid kit
- Man Over Board Beacon
- Safety Harness
- Life Jacket
- Insurance
- Food and personal care items
- Replacement parts
Other expenses are the entry fee, insurance, repairs, boat costs and travel expenses.

The hardest part of this will be getting to the start line, so we would be incredibly grateful for any help, shares or donations. Please let us know if you have any contacts you are willing to share for companies or individuals who may be interested in sponsoring or part funding our race campaign.

Many Thanks,
Lou & Elin
