Help Seth and Lauryn Kelman
In June, my daughter Lauryn was admitted to the hospital with a concerning number of unusual and alarming symptoms and after a couple of weeks of exhaustive testing, was diagnosed with severe Aplastic Anemia. Aplastic Anemia is a life-threatening bone marrow disorder that results in the cessation of blood cell production (red cells, white cells, and platelets). Lauryn has undergone ATG immunosuppressant treatment at Vancouver General Hospital and will continue to take medications that will hopefully allow her bone marrow to recover over the next few months/years. Throughout the duration of Lauryn's immunosuppressant treatment, she is required to stay at home but her employers at CLA Langley have graciously allowed her to work from home for her part-time summer intern position. While we are so grateful for the role our medical community has played in saving Lauryn's life, this has come at a high price, including the continuing cost of medications which is well beyond Lauryn and Seth's, and their families' ability to cover. With the assistance of Lauryn's medical professionals, they have applied to receive compassionate coverage, but have been advised that this is a slow process that could easily take until November to be approved. Seth is working three part-time jobs right now in order to provide for their essential bills, and our hope is that with the help of others we are able to ease the strain of these medical bills that they are unable to cover. We are deeply grateful for any amount that you feel you are able to contribute. We are overwhelmed with the support Lauryn and Seth have already received, and we will be endlessly thankful for the kindness so many have extended.
