Hi, my name is Matt and I’m fundraising for The Alce Family. My sister in-law, Abigail, brother in-law, Walter, nieces Achaiah & Scarlet and nephews Elishah & Wesley have received some horrible news this week that will challenge their lives in every way imaginable.
First I’d like to introduce you to my buddy, Wesley. If you don’t already know him, Wes is a handsome, loving and stubborn 3 year old boy. He’s been the baby in the family until his sister Scarlet tried to steal the show. Lucky for Scarlet, Wesley is absolutely obsessed with her. He also has some other favorite people like Blippi! Blippi was nice enough to send his support via email and offer encouragement for the challenges that are inevitably ahead of him. Thank you Blippi! Our buddy also loves ginger ale which makes him fit right in with his Canadian side of the family. Who doesn’t love Sussex Ale, though? I can’t think of a better beverage to wash down some French fries with— which also happens to be one of Wes’ favorites. I’ve recently come to know that he and I share some of the same interests. Wes loves Transformers!
So, now that you know a little bit about Wes, I’d like you to know a little more about the situation that has surfaced in the last 48 hours. Wesley started off with what we thought was originally a cold. Naturally, given the times we are in, his family took him in for a Covid test to which the results were negative. Like any other parent would do, his dad spent his whole vacation by his pals side and his mom anxiously observed his progress which unfortunately did not come to healthy fruition. As some of you may know, Abigail has a good sense or intuition for when something isn’t quite right. She decided to take Wes in again and demand more tests be done. Abigail received a phone call a few hours later that unfortunately no parent or family member wants to receive. Her son needed to be taken in to Boston immediately for further testing as his white blood cell count was alarmingly high. With great fear, she took her boy in hoping for the best. Doctors have concluded that Wesley Wickham Alce was very, very sick and needed treatment for B-ALL Leukemia. This is by nature a very aggressive form of cancer. His treatment needed to begin immediately and as I write this our buddy is fighting on the operating table.
As a parent I am getting chills writing this and you will too as you reach this point in the story. I’m asking for prayer, love and support on every level for this family right now. They will get through this and we will stick together and do whatever it takes to get Wesley healthy again. We believe he will be in treatment for 3 years. This devastating situation is accompanied by great financial challenges as well. Treatment for this disease can cost upwards of $250,000. Chemotherapy, blood transfusions, bone marrow and spinal treatments can be very expensive and health insurance rarely covers everything. I’m asking all of my family, friends and generally anyone who can comprehend the situation at hand to donate. The last thing this family needs to be concerned with right now is money. These funds will alleviate the financial burdens and give Wes the best treatment possible so he can live a long and healthy life.
Please consider donating to help the Alce’s fund treatment for Wesley. They are a humble family and in fact do not even know that I’m organizing this as they would proudly discourage me from doing so. Thank you for reading and it’s time for God to take over.
