Our Southwest United U17 Girls Tier 1 team has earned the opportunity of a lifetime: to represent Alberta at the U17 National Championships in Newfoundland from October 6-12, 2026.
After an incredible season that saw the girls finish first in EMSA league play, qualify for Nationals, and earn a Silver Medal at the Alberta Tier 1 Provincial Championships, they are now preparing to take the next step and compete against some of the best teams in Canada.
This achievement means so much to our players, families, coaches, and the entire Southwest United community. The girls are the first SWU team to qualify for a National Championship since the club began its new direction in March 2024, making this a milestone not only for this group, but for every young player coming through our club who dreams of one day representing SWU, Edmonton, and Alberta on the national stage.
We are raising funds to help make the trip to Newfoundland possible and reduce the financial burden on our families. Travelling across Canada with an entire soccer team comes with significant expenses. Funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward flights, accommodations, local transportation, team meals, tournament-related costs, and other essential travel expenses. Every contribution, regardless of size, will help ensure that the focus for these players can remain where it belongs: on representing their province, their club, their families, and themselves with pride.
These girls have earned this opportunity through years of training, sacrifices, early mornings, late nights, difficult losses, unforgettable victories, and an incredible commitment to one another. They have shown throughout this season that they are more than just a group of talented soccer players — they are a team. Now they have the chance to create memories that will stay with them for the rest of their lives and to show the next generation of SWU players what is possible.
We are incredibly proud of everything they have already accomplished, but the journey isn’t finished yet. Newfoundland and Nationals are next.
If you are able to donate, share our story, or help support the team in any way, we would be extremely grateful. Together, we can help these young athletes take the field at Nationals and proudly represent Southwest United, Edmonton, and Alberta on the Canadian stage.
Thank you for being part of their journey.
