I'm fundraising to gain support for Jermaine Penney. It is with heavy hearts that we come to find out about the passing of Jermaine, at this time we'd like to raise an amount to help his family with bringing him home and being able to have a Celebration of Life. My little brother died in October out here in B.C. I was never able to meet him unfortunately.
e had a story, like everyone but to his Mom Charlotte Penney our siblings, our bloodline, our heritage, his children and many others he mattered and was loved.
y beautiful little brother is a descendent of Africville and the Jamaican Maroons. He is a part of a history of the atrocities of racism, assimilation, and harms carried out in this country called Canada and our family name is connected to that which is sacred to all who came before us in Africville. It is our foundation, our bloodline and we stand in solidarity with Eddie Carvery.
e found out my brother died from a government letter his Mom received yesterday. Not the way you wish to find out your beloved boy is gone.
then contacted the coroner and a lovely man with great ethics informed us of how my brother died and my brother, like his father tried to get help and seek recovery at end of his life. This I will hold dear and will share gratitude for those who tried to help him, in Gods time- Thank you
’m working on picking up my brothers remains, as he has been cremated.
The province of B.C. paid for my brothers cremation and now I have to get him back to take him home to his Momma-His children- his siblings- our family in Nova Scotia.
hen I pick him up, I will have two of the first people I’ve ever known in recovery do ceremony for us, for our family and then I’ll fly him home- with honour, pride and dignity.
y little brother is beautiful, he matters to his Mom, he matters to our family and community of concern.
y voice will be louder, I’ll carry the stories of my little brother I never shared with anyone who will listen- and never quit on getting help- we never wish to lose anyone.
