Help Shae Maloney Kick Cancer’s Butt (and Bills)
Shaes’ Cancer Story
Our daughter Shae started out 2018 with a new weight lifting and exercise regimen. She started having pain and a small bump on the back of her leg which we thought was related to the exercise. When the bump didn’t go away and got more painful she saw a doctor and after an ultrasound and a cat scan they started talking about cancer. Shae made a 3 ½ hour trip to Portland for a biopsy and what they thought was going to be a removal of a benign tumor, only to find out she had a high-grade soft tissue sarcoma.
Fast forward 7 months, Shae has had a surgical biopsy, 5 weeks of radiation and a second surgery in Portland to remove the tumor along with part of her hamstring. Unfortunately, a complication of that surgery has been that the space where they removed the tumor keeps filling with fluid and getting infected. Shae had a 3rd surgery in August to drain the wound and take antibiotics only to have the wound continue to fill up and ooze down her leg.
Mid-September, Shae had a 4th surgery and now has a wound vac to help her heal and she gets to carry it everywhere with her over the next couple of months. She also has some very small spots on her lungs which have not been diagnosed as cancer, but they have to be monitored by a cat scan every 4 months in addition to a MRI of her leg.
Female Brewer Strong
Shae is a very strong woman having has worked the past 2 years in a very physical job as a brewer and more impressively she worked during her 5 weeks of radiation therapy to her leg. She has also had 4 surgeries and between the pain in her leg and the constant upheaval of her GI tract from medications she has had many rough days. Shae shows such amazing strength by getting up each day and putting one foot in front of the other to keep moving forward in life. She goes into work when she is up to it, she cares for her sweet dog, socializes with friends when able, and most importantly she was in her brother's wedding all while keeping up with the demands of every day life while constantly hurting and often feeling sick to her stomach.
You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice
HELPING SHAE
Our sweet daughter Shae has grown up to be an extremely independent soul. She moved to Iowa for school, Napa for a wine Internship and to Bend to brew beer without knowing a single person in any of these places. She will go to restaurants, movies and concerts on her own as well as out to explore the great outdoors, but also loves to do these things with friends and of course her dog.
Shae would never ask for help but as her mom and dad we know that she needs financial support for her cancer care and living expenses. We are extremely grateful for anything you can contribute towards her expenses and helping Shae on her journey to KICK CANCER'S BUTT AND BILLS!
How the funds will be used
The funds will help to pay for Shae's Cobra insurance which is $800/month, in addition to the deductibles, co-pays and out of pocket fees, as well as travel expenses that are adding up. They will also go to help with rent, living expenses, and her student loans.
If there are any additional funds they will go to helping Shae return to college as she will most likely need to change to a less physical career, or they will go to the St Charles cancer fund for massage, acupuncture and other alternative therapies for patients getting cancer treatment. Please note these donations are considered a gift so they are not tax deductible.
Anything you can give is appreciated including your prayers and support and we thank your from the bottom of our hearts!
