Help Setha beat Cancer

I am creating this fundraiser for my sister Setha. She is  wife to her husband Mike, Mother to her two children, Makeesha and Shea and my best and longest friend. It is being created with love, to help support her and her family while she goes through treatment to fight triple-negative breast cancer.

Early this year Setha found a lump in her breast that turned out to be cancer. After tests and biopsies it was discovered that her cancer was an aggressive form called Triple-negative breast cancer.

If you don't know, Triple-negative breast cancer is a rare disease type, affecting only a small percent of people with breast cancer. This cancer has a tendency to grow and spread more quickly than other types of breast cancer and is difficult to treat because hormonal therapy for this type of breast cancer is not effective. It is because of this that her doctor has started her on Chemotherapy and radiation. Which she started last week (March 5th 2021)

This treatment is aggressive, invasive and difficult and it will no doubt take a toll on her everyday life and over all health quickly but it is the only treatment that is shown to be affective for her type of cancer.

To make this awful situation even more difficult for her and her family. Setha is currently the main breadwinner for her family, after a work injury last year caused her husband to go through his own major medical issues. Something that he is still recovering from and dealing with. This injury resulted in the loss of his job (during Covid) and mounting medical bills. Their oldest daughter, Keesha (My sweet, talented and beautiful niece), was also injured last year and is now also recovering from knee surgery and doing PT. Her job, like many others, was affected by Covid and she is no longer working either. Needless to say my sister and her husband are still paying for these medical costs as well.

Three out of the four people in their family are currently fighting or recovering from medical issues. Which has left my sister as the only one employed while she begins her cancer journey. This burden is putting tremendous financial pressure on her family and while her employer is being supportive, making accommodations for her so that she can continue to work and provide for their family. This means that for the time being there is still a little money coming in and insurance coverage to help cover some of the medical costs. 

Now, I have always known my sister to be a strong, independent and self-sufficient woman, so it is no surprise that she is tackling her current situation with a grace and determination that I am in awe of, but being the bossy big sister I have always been, I believe that it is only a matter of time before it all will become too overwhelming for them. Especially the farther she gets into her treatments.

Knowing that my sister is fighting for her life right now, I am taking steps to help ensure that the extra costs are covered, that the things that they need to be safe in their home are provided, the medical bills for all three of them are paid and they are taken care of financially so they can all just focus on getting better.

I appreciate any help that you may be able to provide and if you can't help financially, if you could share their story with your family, friends, groups, it would be so greatly appreciated. 

I will update on her progress as often as I can.
