Hi! My name's Carrigan Price, and I am a Sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying Health Policy and Management. While one of my professional goals is to serve as a healthcare worker in Cape Town, South Africa, the trip that I am seeking to embark on with Love Africa Mission from May 16th -29th of 2021 is devoted to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In addition to being my first international travel experience, serving underprivileged children and families in Kenya will be my first experience in the mission field outside of my hometown. Throughout my life, I have pursued my passion for children’s ministry at Mountain View Baptist Church in Hickory, North Carolina by working in the nursery, leading preschool Sunday school classes, serving as a Vacation Bible School leader, and participating in the Special Blessings ministry. Introducing the Bible to children who ask SO many questions and display a wholesome, simplistic understanding of God’s word has developed my faith in ways that I struggle to express – they inspire me to have a child-like love for Christ.

During my trip to Kenya, I hope to share the gospel with children and adults in a relatable and meaningful context while continuing to grow in my personal relationship with Christ. Love Africa Mission writes, “Our desire is that every person that serves on a short-term trip with us will come home with a clear vision and a pure passion to serve right where they live.” That is my aim – to fulfill my dream of serving as a missionary in Africa and come back to my communities in Hickory, NC and UNC-Chapel Hill with new perspective and an even deeper burning for Christ that allows me to be a light for friends, family, and strangers alike.

I would love your thoughts and prayers as my fellow team members and I prepare for our mission trip and would greatly appreciate your financial support if you are able – my goal is to raise $3,400 before I leave. Thank you in advance for your contribution to what I hope will be a life-changing experience for numerous Kenyan families and most certainly for myself.

About Our Mission Efforts in Kenya:  We will travel to Kijabe, Kenya, home to the Africa Inland Mission station established in 1903. On station, teams will connect with Kijabe Hospital, Oasis for Orphans, Kenya Kids Can, Little Lambs Daycare, and Rift Valley Fellowship – all incredible ministries that are working to alleviate the brokenness of Kenya. Members of our team most likely will have the opportunity to meet the Masai people down in the Rift Valley and experience true tribal culture during their Sunday worship service. During our stay, we will have the pleasure of meeting and working with incredible missionaries. Teams will have the opportunity to engage in relational ministry with native Kenyans through each of our ministry partners. We will serve alongside Pastor George Irungu doing evangelism in Naivasha. We will also take teams to serve at Oasis for Orphans. These are two of our ministries where you will see firsthand what short term mission work is all about. Teams will also have the opportunity to participate in a Safari experience!

My Testimony: I grew up in Hickory, NC where my entire family attends Mountain View Baptist Church. At a young age, I remember memorizing verses, learning to pray, and reading my Bible; I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior at the age of seven and was baptized as a symbol of that decision and commitment in front of my church family. Although my relationship with Christ has been a constant throughout my life, my spiritual experience during the process of applying to colleges and scholarships made the most profound impression on my faith. Originally, my dream was to go to UNC Chapel Hill as a Morehead-Cain Scholar. After becoming a semifinalist and praying my dream would be fulfilled, I was devastated not to make it to finals. I had relied on Psalm 37:4 which reads, “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart,” and I was upset that the Lord hadn’t kept His word. Two weeks later, I got an email from the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program asking me to apply even though the deadline had passed months prior. As I researched and engaged with the program, I realized that it was an even better fit for me; I knew this was God’s plan. Then, God threw me a curveball; I had received a full scholarship to Gardner-Webb University. I was required to accept the incredible opportunity in March (way before I would know if I got Robertson). However, I knew in my heart that God was leading me elsewhere, and I chose to decline the certain to pursue the unknown. Then, another curveball; I was awarded a scholarship at NC State which I also had to decline in order to continue pursuing Robertson. The Lord granted me – a somewhat indecisive individual – unwavering peace in making these life-changing decisions. When I later learned that I was an alternate for Robertson, I was again confused and plagued by fear as I awaited news. Through continued prayer, I remained confident and assured that being a Robertson Scholar was God’s plan for my life, but I still struggled with wanting to know my future NOW. Eventually, God delivered Robertson and it has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Through these trials and blessings, I experienced the power of God’s faithfulness. What I learned is that… God’s plan is far better than my own. God’s plan isn’t always easiest; I must stick to my heart. The power of prayer and worship conquers all fear. Trusting God means trusting His timing. God knows the desires of my heart better than I can imagine. Now, I rely on Proverbs 19:21, “You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail,” and I aim to remember that I need God on my best day as desperately as I did on my worst. When I encounter fear, I remember what He brought me through and how He provided, and I aim to use that testament to encourage fellow Christians as well as nonbelievers to seek the Lord because I know that He will pursue them in return.
