Watch a movie. Save a horse.
We participated in fundraisers for several horse rescues this last year.
However what happened for these events was that the cost of theater rentals and movie license fees took up the majority of the funds received in ticket sales and the participating horses rescues made very little or just broke even for their efforts.
Because of that , we have started a Go Fund Me page to cover the cost of theater rentals and film license fee for screening our film in order to benefit participating Horse Rescues.
Coming Soon: A list of vetted Horse Rescues that will be participants and recipients of our Go Fund Me dollars received.
Raising awareness about horses in the USA is the reason why we decided to make "Throw Away Horses".
For 5 years, we documented stories told by people who work tirelessly with abandoned or neglected horses like Colorado Horse Rescue and Sound Equine Options.
Now we are seeking funding to help horse rescues screen the film in their local area theaters to help raise funds for their rescue.
Theater rentals can range form $500 to $1500 depending on location. The Go Fund Me dollars will go to pay for the theater rental and film license fee.
100% of Ticket sales at the horse rescue event will go to the participating horse rescue. Each horse rescue that participates will be responsible for promoting their fund raising event.
My name is Theresa Demarest, and I am a filmmaker for our small independent film studio at Joshua Records, LLC, in Portland, Oregon. My latest Award-winning feature film is Throw Away Horses (www.throwawayhorses.com). This documentary sheds light on the thousands of horses that get caught every year in a trap of human neglect, despair, and greed. From the horse racing industry to large and small breeders, down to the individual owner, when a horse is seen as merely a tool or commodity, there is little legal protection or resources for the unwanted horse. The film follows the stories of brave horses and the courageous people working tirelessly to help save them, educate owners and industry leaders, and bring about community and governmental change. The film can be seen on Amazon Prime, YouTube, Google Play, and more.
