On July 31, 2025, my father Rudy and stepmother Cindy Gomez lost their home in a devastating fire in Banning, California. In just moments, everything they owned was destroyed—personal belongings, cherished family photos, medical equipment, and all the comforts of home. Rudy was already in the hospital recovering from a seizure, and Cindy managed to escape unharmed, but the emotional impact of losing their home and memories has been overwhelming. With no fire insurance and only social security income, they now face the urgent challenge of finding stable housing and replacing the essentials they need to live.

Rudy spent over 15 years as a landscaper in their community, always helping neighbors with their yards and never asking for payment. Cindy has built strong friendships in their mobile home park, and the community has rallied to support them with temporary housing. Right now, Cindy is staying with a friend, and Rudy remains in a rehab facility. We are working to secure a rental home for them, but the costs of deposits, first month’s rent, and replacing basic items are more than they can manage alone. The loss of sentimental items and the stress of displacement have made this time especially difficult for them both.
