Hi, my name is Trevor. I have been in the pet industry my whole life, and a dear family close to me owns Something Fishy Pets, a pet shop in Fox Lake, Illinois. They are a well-known family that is always giving everything they have. However, it is now time to give back to them. They purchased a pet store in February 2025, and it was pretty run down. They have been giving it their all, day in and day out, to make improvements and wow the community. They have been doing a good job, although not the best; it's getting there one day at a time.

Everyone is super familiar with the 2,000-gallon fish tank and knows recently it was gutted and was being transformed into a slice of the "Amazon." It was slowly coming together, and it was something they were proud of and excited to see the end results. I was leading the project, controlling what was being stocked and aquascaped, and we were coming along on it slowly but surely. Perfect does not happen overnight, but it was coming together.

Well, today, 7-20-26, that tank, after 20 years, blew out, and 2,000 gallons of water flooded their store, destroyed everything in sight, and now the tank is trash and will need to be cut and removed.

This tank is the centerpiece of the store, and the vision for it was amazing. They want to see the end results. This family constantly gives back to the community, and I think it is time we do the same.

They had insurance, and there is hope it will be covered, but in the unfortunate event the full tank is not covered, they would truly need the funds to help replace this tank and see the vision come to life. A tank of this size made by a reliable, trustworthy company would cost easily $20,000 - $30,000. Plus, with such an unfortunate event, why would they not make the tank just a tad bigger to really wow the community?

If you can support in any way, it would be amazing. Not only is the tank gone, but a ton of the fish that were in there as well. We were at over 350 fish in there at this point, which was amazing because it was such a large tank, but so many tetras, corydoras, cat oto, farowella, angelfish, severums, plecos, geophagus—you would never know there were that many fish in there.

Anything you have to contribute to the slice of the "Amazon" would be greatly appreciated. In the event the tank is fully covered by insurance, rest assured this family would take the funds and donate it to an organization or charity that needs it. They put everyone before themselves and would not accept funds for their own benefit if insurance covers it fully.
