This year, The Malott family (Jeff, April and Phineas) discovered a tiny speck of black mold on the ceiling of their hallway. In the process of getting to the source of that black speck, they discovered 3 active leaks (in the roof, HVAC, and plumbing) airborne black mold throughout their home that traced the line of plumbing, and asbestos tile that needed to come up. They have been living like sojourners since June, as they had to evacuate the premises and hire a professional remediation company to scrub every square inch of their home.
The good news is that they have finally got the mold under control. The bad news is that they had to throw away most of their furniture, and they've now got a giant hole through their house from the laundry room, through what used to be their kitchen, and into their master bathroom and bedroom.
Insurance has only covered a fraction of the total cost, and there's much work to be done. They'll be coordinating volunteer efforts during the first two weeks in December for anyone who would like to donate some physical labor to the rebuild effort. Pease reach out to Jeff or April directly if you can help on either of those weekends.
We've also started this GoFundMe account for anyone who would like to contribute to the cost of the remediation, the rebuild, and help them replace some of the items that they lost. Let's come together to help them in any way that we can.
