Hello everyone. My name is Christina Fonseca. I have lived in Ramona for almost 6 years with my husband Luis Fonseca and 3 of our 5 kids (the other 2 are adults and living up north, one going to college and the other raising our granddaughters). As many of you know, I retired from 21 years in the Navy in Feb 2021. When I first retired, I had no intentions of of returning to work. Luis and I founded a Mental Health no-profit 501c3 and my focus was going to be on dedicated to the non-profit & returning to school. However, by a twist of fate a local small business in our town was going to close and go up for sale. The business is an indoor playground, focusing on children ages 3months-11years. Being as we live in a small town that has a 35-45 min commute to any neighboring cities, and our temperatures rage anywhere from 107F (way too hot to go to an outdoor park, or hike) to 30F cold, rain, and Santa Ana winds with speeds of up to 70mph, I immediately knew that this was a business that our community couldn’t lose. Our children need a clean, safe, temperature controlled environment to play and have fun, year round. After spending my entire adult life in the Military, there was a bit of a rough adjustment period for me, and the idea of bringing joy to the familes in our community helped me find my purpose again. Shortly after buying the business, and making many changes the community asked for, I also started incorporating the clubhouse as a location for the children in our community on the Autism spectrum to complete their Applied behavior analysis (ABA) Therapy, as well as Behavioral (BT) Therapy.
We offer free arts & craft events weekly, frequent story time, and family movie/game nights in addition to the indoor play.
Unfortunately, being brand new to business I did not hit the ground running as much as I could with marketing in the beginning, and didn’t hire any employees. I had this vision that I could do it all on my own. Because of this, I have limited hours of Wed-Sun 10am-5pm. Which excludes a significant portion of the familes in our community trying to balance work/school/and commute times. This has led to unsustainable financial numbers needed to continue to operate. As of now, I am scheduled to Close on Dec 11th. But I have received an overwhelming amount of requests to stay open through the Winter months. By donating, you will be helping family’s in the way of sponsoring admissions (admission is $10/kid, teens&adults free) to family's that may not otherwise be able to provide their children with these life long family fun memories. With raising this money as a business it would give me the opportunity to extend our insurance through the end of January, as well as hire at least 1 or 2 employees. I have partnered with the workability program at our local high school to employ youth in our community with Individualized Educational Plans (IEP’s)/disabilities. Providing them the work experience needed to be able to enter the workforce with meaningful experience once they are graduated or age out of the program. My ultimate goal with these changes, is to remain open until the end of our first lease, and extend for another year.
I really hope that you can find it in your heart to help this goal come to life.
Any donation makes a difference. $1, $10, $100 it all is going to a good cause.
