Help NIWRC Protect Native Women, Girls and 2Spirit

I have the privilege of both racing Wild Goose 100 this September and in doing so, representing intersecting vulnerable populations: female (and female-identifying) LGBTQIA+ Indigenous runners.

It’s important to me to give back when afforded such a privilege so, while not a requirement of this race, I am raising funds for the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center. NIWRC is a Native-led and women-led nonprofit (501)(3)(c) organization dedicated to ending violence against Native women, children, and 2Spirit.

With statistics such as:

- 1 in 3 Native women will experience sexual violence in their lifetime;

- On some reservations, Native women and girls face homicide rates more than ten times the national average;

- Underreported and undocumented disappearances and murders of Native women, girls, and 2Spirit are often linked to domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and sex trafficking;

It is so critical to support this mission. NIWRC provides national leadership in ending gender-based violence in tribal communities by lifting up the collective voices of grassroots advocates and offering culturally grounded resources, technical assistance and training, and policy development to strengthen tribal sovereignty.

While NIWRC is a nonprofit organization, they also rely on crucial support from the Administration for Children and Families – support that is threatened by ongoing federal funding cuts and destabilization of the existence of these departments.
