Help Nick recover from his Traumatic Brain Injury

Hi everyone... My name is Brenda and I have set up this fundraiser to help one of my closest friends, Jenny, and her son Nick, 19, who graduated from HHS in May.

On Nov.. 14, 2021 Nick was driving back to school in Indiana where he was a freshman majoring in Criminal Justice. He also had a college scholarship to play baseball, his true passion in life since he has been 4.

Nick hit a patch of ice and his car colided with the concrete median, head on. He called his mom, and she tried to get his location, told him to put his flashers on and tried to calm him down. He then lifted the side airbag, and she heard him screaming "oh my God Mom, I'm going to die" and the impact of the crash. The phone went dead. She left her 4 other kids at home (Nicks sister insisted on coming) and started the 3 hour drive. About 1.5 hours into the trip she got a call from the Indiana State Police. To her horror she was informed that after the first car hit him, turning his car 180° a second car hit his other side. She was told "it's a miracle he is still here, someone was looking over him."

The impact of the first car knocked Nick unconscious and he was in and out for about 2 hours. He doesn't remember the accident. He had 10 staples in his head but that would be the easy part compared to what he would indured the next 4 months.

Nick has a number of traumatic brain injuries. He has Post Concussion Syndrome, severe PTSD, short term memory loss, extensive whiplash, a small tear in his right shoulder (yes, his pitching one) and an injury to his tailbone. Since Nov. 15 his mom has had to take him to over 60 doctors appointments/MRI-CT-Xrays/physical therapy/chiropractor visits. He has been on roughly 14 medications and will be on 2 for the foreseeable future- one to help manage his PTSD and a headache/antiseizure medication.

Nick's life drastically changed that night. He had to medically withdrawal from college, lost his baseball scholarship, and was not cleared to return this semester. He still, 4 months later, is not driving. He has had a headache everyday sometimes causing him to throw up. His brain took multiple hits, from different directions, in a matter of 10 minutes, the Neurologist has said it may take up to a year for his headaches to go away and his short term memory to come back.

The medical bills are starting to add up and Jen hasn't returned to work because it's been a full-time job caring for Nick. The only thing that has helped him in the slightest is seeing a Functional Neurologist- but insurance doesn't cover this type of doctor. The first visit was $500 and each visit after is $150. She is already at $1000 and he needs multiple visits weekly but it is the ONLY treatment that has lessened his pain. Plus there are many other costs that need to be paid. Nick only had liability for his car so that had to be replaced and the new one found needs repairs. He also has to repay his student loan. All of the costs have added up.

Nick is the oldest of Jens 6 kids, if you know her, she never asks for help. But she absolutely needs help now to continue to get Nick all the medical support he needs to try and get him as back to normal as possible.

Please think about donating, Nick is an amazing kid who umped the little league in our town, worked at the local baseball facility and taught younger boys the love of baseball.
