On Tuesday October 28th, Jamaica was struck by Hurricane Melissa — a Category 5 hurricane that was the most powerful hurricane ever recorded to make landfall in the Atlantic basin.

The hurricane struck between the parishes of St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland, and the destruction has been catastrophic.

Two communities that mean the world to us — Treasure Beach in St. Elizabeth and Bluefields in Westmoreland, have been severely impacted. Bluefields Bay was hit especially hard.

Today, we are asking for your help.

Why We’re Raising Funds

For over a decade, these communities have welcomed our team and guests with open arms. They have supported our vision and goals as a company. They’ve hosted us, fed us, supported us, and welcomed us like their own.

Now is it time for us to support them.

Homes are flooded.

Roads are washed out.

Families are stranded.

Entire communities are cut off from support.

Many people here have lost everything.

We cannot — and will not — let our community face this alone.

The Impact

Treasure Beach:

Water levels flooded homes and cut off roads throughout the parish.

There is currently no electricity, water, or cell service and rising concerns about food access.

The destruction last year from Hurricane Beryl caused significant damage to the houses in our community. Together with Blue Marlin, we repaired homes and replaced 127 roofs in Great Bay. Because of our efforts and donations from last year, only a few of those 127 roofs have been damaged.

Bluefields:

Bluefields experienced the full force of the storm.

The eye of the storm passed through Bluefields Bay, one of our MycoMeditations retreat locations, and the houses, beach, plants and trees were destroyed.

Leading the Recovery Plan

MycoMeditations is once again partnering with Blue Marlin Villas to generate funds for affected communities around Jamaica which have been left devastated.

Together, we ran the recovery efforts here in Great Bay after Hurricane Beryl last year.

In unimaginable circumstances, we find ourselves here again to make sure our community is safe and looked after.

MycoMeditations and Blue Marlin have operated businesses in Treasure Beach for over a decade, and our teams live here locally year-round.

Transfer Plan For Funds

We will receive the funds into a corporate account which is segregated from our operating accounts. We will pay for hurricane related supplies and materials directly from this segregated account. ALL proceeds from our GoFundMe campaign will be earmarked for local relief efforts. No funds will go to benefit MycoMeditations or Blue Marlin and no administration fees or other charges will be assessed.

How The Funds Will Be Spent

Funds will be used to purchase the most high priority resources or materials for the relief efforts of Treasure Beach and Bluefields Bay. Our teams will work in conjunction with community stakeholders and non-profit organizations to determine the most helpful allocation of funds.
