Help My Sister Recover from a Mastectomy-Breast Cancer

Hi, my name is Brenda, and I’m a 6-year cancer survivor.
Today, I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for help for my little sister.
Recently, our family received devastating news: my baby sister has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, it was caught early, but she still must undergo a mastectomy. Her recovery will require her to be out of work for 2–3 months.
She is a single mother of two and a dedicated employee at Rutgers University. Unfortunately, because of previous medical leaves, she only has a few remaining paid days available. This means that during her recovery, she will not receive income while on family leave.
With the high cost of living and the responsibilities of raising her children alone, this situation has placed her under tremendous financial stress. Our parents, can’t step in to help, they are both currently battling serious health issues—our mother is living with dementia and our father is undergoing dialysis—so they are unable to provide support.
This diagnosis has been especially emotional for us because just last month, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, my sister and I walked side by side at a breast cancer event where I was honored to speak as a survivor. We thought we were preparing for this battle with an early Stage 0 detection, but we never imagined it would lead to her needing a mastectomy.
I’m humbly asking for assistance to help cover her bills and essential expenses while she heals. Anything you can contribute will make a meaningful difference and help relieve some of the worry she’s carrying as she prepares for surgery next month. Even if you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this fundraiser with others would be a tremendous help.
Thank you in advance for your kindness, generosity, and prayers.
Your support means more to us than words can express.
