Ms. Gertrude will be turning 80 years old in July 2026, and she is still working as a dedicated cook at Thunderbird Country Buffet—a place she’s called her second home since 1974. For over five decades, she has been a pillar of her community, serving millions of people near and far with warmth, wisdom, and a giving heart. Through the years, Ms. Gertrude has faced more than her share of hardships. She lost her husband at a young age and continued to raise two children and several grandchildren, often with limited help. She has outlived siblings and dear friends, yet she has never let life’s challenges stop her from caring for others. Her devotion to her home church, Life Tabernacle, and her family is unmatched. She’s always ready to give the shirt off her back or offer words of wisdom to anyone in need, whether they ask for it or not. Her kindness and generosity have touched countless lives. Despite her decades of hard work, Ms. Gertrude’s employer does not offer medical, dental, retirement, or paid leave benefits. This means that every medical bill, car payment, or unexpected expense comes out of her own pocket or with the help of her family. She is not in a position to retire like many others, and social security alone is not enough to cover her bills. With a new car payment that won’t be paid off until she’s 87 and a second mortgage she took out to help others, the financial burden is heavy. I am writing this in hopes that our community and anyone touched by Ms. Gertrude’s story will come together to support her. The funds raised will help cover her everyday living expenses, pay off medical bills from past surgeries, and assist with her car payments and mortgage. Most importantly, your support could help Ms. Gertrude finally retire and enjoy the peace she has given so many others. Thank you all in advance for your kindness and generosity.
