Help Move Heidi & Israel to Harvard
Fun fact: Heidi played Elle Woods in her high school production of Legally Blonde the Musical. She joked that it would be the closest to Harvard she'd ever get; we can't tell you how delighted we are that she was wrong.
Jeni and I are so proud of Heidi, and we are grateful you clicked on this page to show your support. We hope you consider contributing to this fundraiser to help move Heidi and her husband Israel out to Boston as she attends the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) this fall 2021.
The Need
Heidi and Israel will fly out to Boston, leaving most of their belongings behind. We hope to raise enough money to cover the costs of:
- Plane tickets and travel expenses ($900)
- Two months of groceries ($300)
- Purchasing essential items: bedding, kitchenware, toiletries, small furniture, etc. ($1,500)
- School materials ($150)
- Inner-city transportation fees for the first two months ($180)
- Coffee for the first few months (she'll need a lot of it!) ($70)
The Program
Heidi will get her master's in education, entering into the Human Development & Education program at HGSE. This program blends education and psychology- emphasizing the research on how people learn. As she describes it, it better sets her up as a family counselor rather than a classroom teacher.
Her goal: to research the positive effects of performing arts on the development of children, particularly children on the autism spectrum or with other disabilities.
Heidi believes the world of theater provides ample opportunity for a child's development. If some of the theatrical practices could be replicated in a classroom, Special Ed. teachers will have one more tool at their disposal for children with specific educational needs.
