Hello, my name is Mike Elliott, and I’m reaching out to you during a very challenging time in my life. I’ve always been passionate about my approach and zeal in my life, and I’ve been blessed with a wonderful talented daughter, Sienna Noelle, which I raised by myself, entering into her 1st year of college and a strong community of Family and Friends. I have always been considered fit and take great pride in that dedicated, disciplined way of life. Recently, I was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma prostate cancer, and it has profoundly impacted my life and my family. My faith is unshaken and my head unbowed. I am ready to attack this challenge with ALL I Have to Give!
My Diagnosis:
I am new to this battlefield, but when I received the difficult news that I have stage 4 adenocarcinoma of the prostate. This is challenging because it has traveled so far from the prostate. I was jolted into a panic when I literally awoke to a massive sensation being “electrocuted” from behind both ears pulsing down my back then jolting down the back of both legs culminating with complete paralysis below my waist. The cancer rapidly spread to my T8 and T9 vertebrae and the tumor was rapidly compressing my spinal cord. After the emergency neurosurgery my left foot had pins and needles the next day but my right side was non responsive. I’m currently undergoing Focused Radiation therapy treatments and I am told next we will be aggressively treating with chemotherapy, radiation, and photon therapies. Unfortunately, my insurance will not be covering these challenges. This journey has been incredibly tough, but I’m determined to fight and stay positive because I am committed to be represent a strong Man and leave my daughter with the pride of knowing her Dad held strong and was still her “hero” even when faced with the ultimate challenge.
This diagnosis has brought significant physical and emotional challenges that I am actively plotting to defeat but for the first time in my life I am faced with the distinct possibility that my life will be ending sooner than I had ever had imagined. The fabric of the Family has many imperfections but I have dedicated my energy to promoting its sometimes brief connections that progide real meaning. This, the first time where my plans must consider the possibility of not being here for my daughter’s College graduation or walking her down the aisle, giving her away at her wedding. I really wanted to be a doating GrandPa to my grandchildren. Don’t get me wrong I need no pity I am good with my God and when he calls I am ready to go!
My Need for Support:
The financial burden of cancer treatment is overwhelming. Between medical bills, medications, and daily living expenses, the costs are mounting. Your support will help cover these expenses, starting with Acute Rehabilitation care and the vast mix of treatments endeavored to contain the cancer, travel for care, equipment and housing. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference.
My Journey:
Throughout this journey, I’ve been fortunate to receive incredible support from my family, friends, and my amazing healthcare team. I am just at the beginning but up for this challenge. I have undergone initial neurosurgeries on my spinal cord and spine. I will be facing another back surgery to fuse my spine with rods to stabilize it then continue with procedures designed to contain my cancer if possible and extend my life. I have had shocking days, painful days, challenging days and even some good days. Despite the obstacles, I remain hopeful and grateful for every moment.
The Call to Action:
I humbly ask for your support during this time. Whether you can donate or simply share this campaign with others, it all helps. From the bottom of my heart, thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. Together, with God we can make an impact!
Updates:
I intend to wage War on this intruder and I have the right spirit and mindset to win significant battles along the way.
I intend to keep this page updated with my progress, upcoming treatments, and any milestones with hopes that I inspire others with what I discover about myself and this War I am waging against Cancer.
Your continued support and encouragement means the world to me! LFG
