Help Melvin & Samah Rebuild After Devastating Fire

A lightning-sparked fire destroyed the home of a generous family of 12. Help us provide shelter, essentials, and hope as they begin again.

In the stillness of the early morning on Wednesday, May 21st, around 2 a.m., a devastating fire tore through my brother’s home in Lawrenceville, GA. A place once filled with love, laughter, and refuge was reduced to ashes in moments. But thanks to the quick thinking and bravery of my 14-year-old nephew,who happened to be awake at the time,he was able to alert everyone and they were able to get out safely. Because of him, no lives were lost. Thank God!!

But while everyone made it out alive, the family lost absolutely everything else—clothing, furniture, school supplies, documents, and a lifetime of memories.

This wasn’t just a house. It was the Lod House—a place of refuge, generosity, and love. Over the years, Melvin and Samah have opened their doors to so many people in need. Whether it was family, friends, or someone in transition, they gave without hesitation or expectation. I know this firsthand, because when I moved to Georgia, it was their home that gave me shelter and stability.

They’ve always shown up for others. Now, they need us to show up for them.
