Help Me Stay Mobile – A New Accessible Van

Hi, I’m Erin, and I use a power wheelchair. Getting around shouldn’t be this hard—but for people like me, transportation is one of our biggest challenges.

You might be thinking...

Can’t you just call an Uber or Lyft?

Unfortunately, no. Rideshare vehicles are not wheelchair accessible.

What about a taxi?

That assumes one with a wheelchair-accessible van is even available. Most aren’t trained or equipped to handle a power chair. And if they are, the cost is often 2–4 times higher than a regular fare.

Surely there’s public transportation or paratransit?

These options exist, but they are severely limited. What would take 15 minutes in a car can take 2–4 hours using public systems—and that’s if everything runs on time. Service areas are restricted, transfers are complicated, and reliability is poor. Even basic outings like going to the doctor, getting groceries, or visiting a friend become exhausting obstacles.

Now imagine trying to evacuate in an emergency—like a fire or earthquake—without accessible transportation.

A new accessible vehicle costs around $90,000.

This is why I’m asking for your help.

This van is not a luxury.

It’s a lifeline.

My mom is retired, and I live on a fixed income. Replacing our current van is financially out of reach, but it is essential for me to stay connected to life.

It’s how I get to physical therapy.

How I buy groceries.

How I stay connected with friends, my doctors, and my community.

I have never done a fundraiser like this before, and it’s not easy to ask. However, if you’re able to contribute, please know that you’re making a real difference. Every bit helps me stay mobile, independent, and engaged with the world I love.
