Help Me Carry a Bag for a Cause – Literally!
Do you want to see me run a 5K… carrying a full golf bag?
My name is Michael Wiedle, and I’m the Director of Marketing at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. This year, we’re celebrating a 75-year partnership with the Western Golf Association (WGA) and its life-changing Evans Scholars Foundation.
When I joined Inverness in 2022, I quickly got involved with the Evans Scholars Program. More than designing and promoting it, I fell in love with its mission: providing full tuition and housing scholarships to hardworking caddies with financial need.
Here’s the quick history:
- Founded by Charles “Chick” Evans Jr., who in 1916 won both the U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur.
- In the 1920s, he partnered with the WGA to help young people pursue higher education.
- Since 1930, over 12,500 students have graduated as Evans Scholars, with more than 1,200 currently enrolled today.
This fall, I’m taking on a challenge to raise money for this incredible cause:
On September 21, I’ll run in the Garmin Marathon Series.
On October 6, we’ll host our Inverness Evans Scholars Invitational, with a goal of raising $250,000.
I’m personally pledging $1,500 to match donations made here.
If we hit that $1,500 goal—amazing. That’s $3,000 for a great cause.
But here’s where it gets fun… if we hit $10,000, I will run the full 5K in full caddie garb, carrying a golf bag.
Every dollar counts, and 100% of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to the Evans Scholars Foundation. At the end of the campaign, I’ll personally write and deliver the check and share proof with all of you.
Let’s raise money. Let’s change lives. And maybe, let’s watch me suffer a little for a great cause.
Donate now and help me carry the bag!
