Help Lyss “AradiaArts” Escape an Unsafe Household

Hi, my name is Lyss. I’m a nonbinary lesbian artist working as a fandom digital artist and toy/product designer, and I’m raising funds to escape an abusive home and begin the next chapter of my life in Los Angeles.

Right now, I live in New York with a transphobic and lesbophobic father who verbally and emotionally abuses both me and my mother. He uses financial manipulation, belittling, victim-blaming, and constant surveillance to maintain control over us. He’s placed cameras in the house to monitor my actions, frequently screams at me and my mother to the point of full panic episodes, hiding from him, ect. He has thrown kitchenware at my mother, and has threatened to kick us out of the house multiple times without warning. He and invalidates my identity and safety. I am terrified of him, and it’s no longer safe for my health for me to stay. I’ve tried to convince my mother to come with me but she refuses to, and i cannot control her.

I’ve worked hard to build my career as a freelance artist despite struggling with ADHD, PTSD, and MDD, but I need help to finally leave this unhealthy environment, find safety, and build a better future so I can focus on my career again and create stability for myself.

Why I'm Moving:

I'm relocating to Los Angeles to be:

* Closer to my friends/support system

* In the center of my creative industry (animation, design, art)

* Farther away from the source of my trauma

I’ll be staying with someone close to me for the first month, who has kindly offered me a place to live temporarily without needing to pay for housing right away. But to make the move successful and sustainable, I still need to raise funds to cover the remaining critical expenses, and keep my goals focused on future housing, and career hunting.

What the Funds Will Cover:

* Car Registration, Plates & Insurance in NY
- To ensure I have safe and legal transportation as soon as I arrive


* Boarding for My Pet Bird, Muppet (1 Month in LA)
- I want to make sure my bird is safe and cared for while I look for stable housing

* Moving & Travel Costs
- Gas, food, and supplies for the cross-country drive

* Basic Necessities While Transitioning
- Food, toiletries, medication, and supplies as I get settled


* Saving for a Security Deposit & First Month’s Rent
- My long-term goal is to move into a studio or one-bedroom apartment in LA. Rent in the area I’m looking at averages $1,300–$1,800/month, so I need to prepare ahead for first month’s rent and a possible 1.5x security deposit.

My Goal: $6,000

This total will allow me to:

* Escape an abusive household

* Relocate safely

* Keep my pet safe

* Stabilize during my first month

* Prepare for sustainable, long-term housing

* Have a small extra cushion outside of the costs listed just incase of emergencies.

I know I’m asking for a lot, and it’s difficult to be this vulnerable, but I’m doing everything I can to survive and I’m trying to give myself a future I can actually live in.
