Support Killian’s Medical Recovery After Serious Surgical Complications
On December 31, Killian stepped on glass and suffered a deep cut to the back of her ankle. In the emergency room, doctors explored the wound and stitched it, and we were sent home believing it would heal.
But it didn’t.
That night the wound reopened but the following day the ER did not feel it needed further care. Over the next days, Killian’s pain worsened. Eventually, an MRI revealed the truth: her Achilles tendon had been completely severed and had retracted several centimeters. She needed urgent complex surgery to repair it.
We thought surgery would be the turning point. Instead, it was the beginning of a new challenge.
Her surgical wound broke down and became infected with MRSA. She required multiple emergency surgeries to remove infected tissue, a wound vacuum device attached to her leg, IV antibiotics, and long hospital stays.
Killian’s wound remains open with her Achilles exposed. Doctors are still unsure what additional surgeries she may need, including plastic surgery reconstruction and long-term rehabilitation. We cannot even begin to consider if she will regain full function, time we hope will tell.
To further complicate matters, we are in the middle of a move that will require a 4 to 5 hour roundtrips to continue her twice a week wound care and further surgeries.
We are raising funds to help with:
• Hospital and surgical bills
• Wound care and medical equipment
• Medications and specialist follow-up
• Travel, lodging, and caregiving costs
• Future procedures and rehabilitation
Any support means the world to us. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page helps more than you know. Thank you for caring about Killian and her healing.
I have complied images of her progress, but due to their graphic nature, I will not add them or future photo updates here. Those interested can view them here: Killian Achilles Photos
