HELP KENLEY KICK CANCER TO THE CURB!
Donation protected
As friends of the McCurdy family, we have watched them struggle with Kenley’s recent life-altering diagnosis of Renal Cell Carcinoma, which is extremely rare for a 12-year-old. Family, friends, neighbors, and Kenley’s swim community have rallied around her to bring love and support during this unimaginable time. All funds raised will allow the family access to the best possible medical care and treatment. We sincerely appreciate any contribution and prayers as the family navigates this incredibly challenging time together. Shared below is Kenley’s story from the perspective of her parents.
What turned out to be a typical day at the pool on September 4th, turned into the worst day of our family’s life. Our 12-year-old daughter had severe acute right-sided lower back pain, which we assumed was kidney stones. After many hours at Children's ER, we were told the unimaginable after several tests, "Your daughter has cancer". Our entire life changed with those 4 words. The next week was a whirlwind. Kenley had a successful surgery to remove her right kidney and all suspicious lymph nodes. Biopsy results determined that she has Renal Cell Carcinoma, which is very rare in children with limited research about treatment.
She was home for 10 days before experiencing chylous ascites, which is an extremely rare complication from the surgery. Kenley has been admitted into the hospital since September 22nd, dealing with the lymphatic leak, which takes several weeks to months to heal. During this admission on October 17th, Kenley had a bilateral wedge resection to remove lesions in her lungs. Her recovery is going well. Kenley is the definition of a true warrior and has been an inspiration for both my wife and I.
The love and support we have already received from our family, friends and the community has been amazing. We are truly blessed to have so many great people in our lives.
Kenley still has challenges ahead of her, but she is resilient and ready to fight.
