Hello, my name is Jelena and I’m a mother doing everything I can to keep my seven-year-old safe and stable.
For the past year, I’ve been unable to find work after experiencing discrimination and a toxic workplace environment within a school district. Since leaving, my reputation was damaged in ways that I’ve been unable to overcome, despite there being little to no proof to support the claims that were made. I’ve applied tirelessly for jobs, especially within special education. However, these doors continue to be closed.
During this time, my daughter and I have faced extreme hardship. I’ve escaped homelessness once, only to find myself struggling again. This time I’m completely on my own. Every day is focused on survival: keeping a roof over our heads, food on the table, and a sense of normalcy for my daughter.
In a moment of desperation, I reached out to the church I grew up in, asking for help. Unfortunately, I was turned away because I can’t guarantee repayment immediately due to the circumstances of my unemployment. That rejection left me in an incredibly vulnerable place, but I cannot give up, especially with a child depending on me.
This is not easy to ask, but I’m putting my pride aside. Any amount, whether through donations or sharing this fundraiser, means more than I can express.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us survive and move forward.
With gratitude,
Jelena
