HELP ME ON MY JOURNEY TO RECOVERY

Hello my name is Janay, my family and friends call me Nay. I am a single mother with an 11 year old daughter and a 13 year old son. I’m an armed security guard who loves providing a safe and comfortable environment for my community. On June 17, 2024 I visited Pismo,CA with my sisters and cousin. It was my 34th birthday and we were all so excited to celebrate my life by riding ATVs on Pismo Beach. Within 45 minutes of riding the ATVs I went from celebrating my life to fighting for my life. My ATV flew off of an 8’ cliff that I couldn’t see. I flew over a fence and landed face first in the sand, the ATV landed on my back. My sister pulled my head out of the sand to find my helmet covered in blood and me choking on blood. She had to force the broken helmet off my head. My sister and cousin tried calling 911 but due to us being in the bottom of a sand dune they had no phone service. The atv was smoking and spilling out gasoline, they were in fear it was going to explode.They acted quickly and pushed/pulled the atv off of me. We were alone in that sand dune for 18-20 min before we received any help.

I fractured my spine in four different places, broke my nose on both sides, split my tongue in half and I have two brain hemorrhages. I had a successful seven hour surgery and I now have screws in my back. My tongue has been stitched back together and my nose and brain hemorrhaging is being watched carefully as it naturally heals. Once I’m discharged from the hospital I will be admitted to a rehabilitation facility for 4-6 weeks. I’m still in a hospital in Santa Maria(a small town near Pismo Beach). This accident has quickly shifted my reality. I have never been faced with so many financial and physical setbacks at once. I’m concerned with how I will be able to meet my family's basic financial needs while I’m in rehab and unable to work.
