Help Hunter get an adaptable RV

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Nichole…. I’m proud to be called mom by my Duchenne’s Warrior!

Hunter is a 13 year old boy afflicted with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. This is a rare and terminal illness which is characterized by a progressive degeneration of the muscles. It is caused by the absence of a protein called dystrophin which essentially holds the muscle together.

A diagnosis of Duchenne’s includes a shortened life span as heart and lung muscles stop functioning, and many medical devices such as wheelchairs, lifts, breathing machines will be required.

According to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, 1-5000 children are diagnosed in Canada, and only 800 live with this incurable disease. Many boys are diagnosed at around 4-5 years once weakness in everyday movement begins.

Hunter was diagnosed at around age 6. His grandmother was a manifesting carrier that developed symptoms later in life, and lead to her untimely death.

As Hunters mobility has declined rapidly, his favourite past times have been hugely affected. Although he plays wheelchair basketball during the fall/winter months, we are saddened to see so many of his outdoor loves greatly diminished due to accessibility issues.

We spent the majority of our family time camping, hunting or fishing. Unfortunately most RV trailers are extremely difficult for disabled people. The door ways are much too small, we require portable ramp or lift systems, and the bathrooms never allow for a caregiver to be there to support the toileting and bathing needs.

We are raising funds to be able to purchase a used RV that can be renovated to meet some of Hunter’s needs. Our current trailer can not be renovated, as such we will sell it, and along with the generous donations - repurchase and renovated.

Our hearts are breaking watching him decline, and our new goal is to create as many family memories as possible in an accessible pain free environment.

All and any support is so great-fully appreciated.
