Help Geoffrey D. Fight Cancer and Support His Family

Donation protected
Hi everyone, I'm organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my oldest friend Geoff and his wife Jenni. This is their story:

Three months ago, as we welcomed our baby into the world, we thought we were beginning the happiest season of our lives. Instead, we now find ourselves facing our toughest battle yet. My husband, Geoff—known to many of his friends as Zane—is once again fighting testicular cancer, this time an escalated recurrence that requires major surgery and a long recovery.

In January 2023, at just 33 years old, Geoff was diagnosed with Stage 1S NSGCT testicular cancer. While many cases of testicular cancer are largely benign and responsive to treatment, his prognosis (a nonseminomatous mixed germ cell tumor with components of embryonal carcinoma, yolk sac tumor, and teratoma) has worse outcomes and a greater threat of recurrence. After an orchiectomy just days after his diagnosis, his serum markers continued to climb, meaning the cancer had already spread. He underwent three cycles of BEP chemotherapy that same year, spending most of the summer in the hospital.

For the last two years, Geoff's treatment has been followed by close surveillance, requiring routine CT scans and blood tests to monitor his cancer. He showed signs of having beaten it, and we lived with hope and relief, celebrating our future together. But in July 2025, just weeks from reaching his two-year cancer-free milestone, a follow-up CT scan revealed devastating news—the cancer had returned, now elevated to stage 2B.

Geoff’s oncologist and urologist have recommended an extensive, highly-complex surgery called PC-RPLND (post-chemotherapy retroperitoneal lymph node dissection). This is an open abdominal surgery, lasting 6 to 8 hours. His surgeons will operate in close proximity to major blood vessels and organs, removing his retroperitoneal lymph nodes and any cancerous tissue they find. It is risky, intensive, and has lifelong consequences, but the hope is this procedure might eliminate his cancer for good.

Recovery is long and challenging. In the months and years ahead, Geoff will face:
  • Significant pain and limited mobility while healing from a large, abdominal-length incision
  • Physical therapy as well as lifting and movement restrictions for months (and potentially for life)
  • Potential loss of the ability to have biological children due to nerve involvement in the surgery
  • Risk of long-term digestive changes from the surgery
  • Possible adjuvant or even salvage chemotherapy, depending on post-op pathology results

Geoff will be unable to work for months as he recovers—all while we raise our newborn. For him, the hardest part is not the surgery or the recovery, it is being unable to care for his daughter the way he wants to. He says this is the hardest part about what lies ahead.

We are reaching out to friends, family, and our community for help during this incredibly difficult time. While we have been struggling with this diagnosis since the start of 2023, we have largely kept to ourselves and never asked for help until now. Geoff neither feels entitled to your support nor feels comfortable asking for it, but he knows if it will help his daughter, it's worth it. All donations will go toward medical expenses not covered by insurance, essential items for our baby, and his recovery.

Geoff is the most dedicated father and partner I could ever hope for, and it breaks my heart that he’s still facing this battle while trying to provide for our little one. Your generosity—whether through donations, reposting and sharing this page with others, or words of encouragement—mean the world to us.

Geoff’s PC-RPLND surgery is currently scheduled for September 8, 2025. I will continue to provide updates regarding his status and recovery on this platform.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us in this fight,
Jenni
