Help for Jeff and Jeanie Athey's Medical Bills

Hello, my name is Tim Athey. On December 28th, 2021, my mom had her 19th surgery on her arm due to Chronic Refractory Osteomyelitis (severe bone infection). This set in after her 1st surgery on her broken arm resulting from a semi-truck rear ending her on the highway at

full speed on March 31st, 2011. It’s a miracle she’s even alive. In addition to her broken arm, it broke her neck, messed up 17 vertebrae in her back and tore both her rotator cuffs, which are extremely painful and still need surgery to fix after they get rid of her Osteomyelitis. As the Osteomyelitis ate away at her bone, they had to cut more bone away to try to stop the spread. Now almost all of her bone from her shoulder to her mid-forearm has been replaced with titanium. To try to stop this horrible infection, she had 2 weeks of daily, powerful IV antibiotics before her most recent surgery, plus she’s getting at least 6 more weeks of this medication after the surgery as well. In addition, she needs at least 20 Hyperbaric Chamber Oxygen treatments.

 

On top of all of this, in November 2020 and January 2021, my dad had two major heart surgeries to put stents in his Left Anterior Descending (LAD) artery, known as the widow maker, due to 70% blockages. Unfortunately, in addition to taking multiple heart medications, they are still conducting tests trying to figure out why he continues to have chest pains, but they have to be very careful with his tests and treatments, because his kidneys are only functioning at 50%.

 

In 2021, my parents got hit with $13,572 total medical bills after insurance. Out of this total, $5,187 is now past due for 2021. In 2022, we expect their total medical bills to rapidly escalate. Between mom’s 2022 IV antibiotics (39 treatments x $112 per day after insurance = $4,368) and her Hyperbaric Chamber treatments (20 x $175 each = $3,500), she will hit her insurance maximum annual out of pocket of $6,500 before mid-Feb 2022. Your help to raise at least $5,187 is urgent to help them avoid their 2021 bills getting sent to collections. If they don’t get significant help beyond that, they could soon be facing at least $6,500 in additional unpaid bills by mid-Feb 2022. Thank you for anything you can do to help my parents.
