Help for 3-year-old Jack's Medical Emergency
On April 22, 2021, our 3-year-old nephew Jack was rushed to Lutheran General Children’s Hospital with a severe headache and vomiting. It turned out to be a parent’s worst nightmare when a scan revealed a 6 cm (2.5 inch) brain tumor. He had surgery that day to put in a shunt to drain the fluid and eliminate pressure on his brain. The doctor said it was miraculous that they’d brought him in when they did, because the possibility of survival went from 0% to 85%. Doctors are hopeful that the tumor is benign, although this can’t be confirmed until his surgery on Monday morning. While the MRI looks promising, the doctors emphasized that Jack is not out of the woods.
Even with health insurance, the medical costs will be astronomical with two surgeries as well as the extended stay in the ICU. To fully recover, Jack will need ongoing physical therapy as well as follow up screenings. Coupled with his parents’ loss of income as they spend their time at the hospital with Jack, this will create a tremendous financial strain. Any financial help will be greatly appreciated by the family. We also ask for everyone’s prayers—for Jack and the family as well as for the doctors to perform a flawless surgery.
Gina Halford Merritt is organizing this fundraiser for Scott & Michelle Halford on behalf of their son Jack. They will be listed as the beneficiaries as soon as Go Fund Me approves it.
