Hi everyone,
First and foremost thank you for your time and consideration.
I am a first-time mother seeking assistance with funding a midwife for my prenatal care,home-birth and postnatal care. These funds will cover office visits, necessary medications, lab work, counseling and a plethora of other necessary services. As a Black woman in my 30s the risks of mortality and complications associated with childbirth multiplied.
Unfortunately, my medical insurance does not cover these costs. I hope to be able to have the funds raised and paid to the midwife by August 2021.
With your financial assistance I can take additional steps to ensure the best outcome for myself and my baby. Together we can attempt to balance the healthcare inequities in our communities. Your contributions are invaluable and will be felt for generations to come.
Thank you in advance.
Additional statistics for your consideration:
Per the CDC, Black women experienced higher PRMRs than all other racial/ethnic populations and the gap widened among older age groups. For women over the age of 30, PRMR for black women was four to five times higher than it was for white women. The PRMR for black women with at least a college degree was 5.2 times that of their white counterparts. A study by the National Institute Of Health found that 8% of white women received treatment for their postpartum depression compared to 4% of Black women.
