If you've ever met Jim Kane, you know he's the kind of person who always puts others first.

Jim has been a dedicated firefighter with the Okanagan Indian Band Fire Department for many years. As a highly skilled driver/pump operator and firefighter, he has spent countless hours protecting lives, homes, and his community without ever asking for recognition.

During the Bradley Creek wildfire, Jim was doing exactly what he's always done—risking his own safety to save the homes of others. While battling the fire and working tirelessly to protect multiple homes in the community, he never had the chance to return to his own house. By the time he could, it was gone.

Jim lost everything.

He walked away with nothing but the clothes he was wearing. Even after losing his own home, he continued fighting the wildfire for several more days, determined to protect his community. Only after being urged to take a break did he head into town to look after himself—and true to his nature, he wasn't gone for long before he was back on the fire line.

That's who Jim is.

He's the kind of person who would never ask for help, but now it's our turn to be there for him.
