Help a Generous Nepalese Family Cultivate Their Land
Hello, my name is Daniel Murphy. I’m a Bonner Scholar attending Berry College, and this past summer (2025), I spent two incredible months volunteering in the Jungu, Dolakha District of Nepal.
During my time there, I was involved in several community projects, including:
• Teaching English at a local school
• Participating in a reforestation project to restore local forests
• Helping build a women’s shower facility to improve hygiene access
But what truly made this experience life-changing was the family who welcomed me into their home.
From day one, they treated me like one of their own. They included me in every family meal, helped me learn the local language, and shared their daily life with me. I became especially close to their 2-year-old grandson, Manik—a bright, joyful little boy who loved kicking a soccer ball around and hiding my water bottle when I wasn’t looking. The bonds I formed with this family are ones I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.
They own a field near their home that has the potential to provide food and income—not only for their family but also to support others in their small village. Unfortunately, they currently lack the financial resources to make use of it.
This GoFundMe campaign is about giving back. Your donation will go directly toward helping them purchase the tools, seeds, and materials they need to cultivate their land and build a more secure future.
Even a small gift can have a big impact. Please consider helping this incredibly generous family who gave me so much. Let’s come together to support them, just as they supported me.
Thank you for reading and for any support you’re able to offer.
