Help Ellen Conquer Cancer

This fund has been set up on behalf of Ellen Phillipson by her Westin Bear Mountain family, where she has been employed for the past 10 years as a Room Attendant.

Ellen was diagnosed with stage one Breast cancer on December 22, 2016. Shortly after that diagnosis she underwent a mastectomy followed by several rounds of chemotherapy.

Ellen was faced with financial difficulties when her medical EI ran out in April while she was still undergoing chemo and unable to return to work. She soon found out her options were limited to collecting social assistance which gave her a small amount to live off resulting in unpaid bills and debt accumulation. She has received some financial help from BC Hospitality Foundation which assists hotel and hospitality workers in crises but those funds quickly ran out. She has recently been approved for disability due to depression brought on by this disease but is only a small increase from social assistance.

While Ellen has completed her chemotherapies, she is still facing the difficulty of adjusting to her hormone therapy medication which is a difficult transition leaving her too sick to return to work at this time.

Even though the chemotherapy was successful she still battles daily with the mental and physical changes to her body and mind.

We continue to fundraise for Ellen at the Westin Bear Mountain but are asking for outside donations. Any donation, big or small, will make a big difference. If you are unable to donate, we ask you to please share with your friends and family.
