Katie is a dedicated teacher and single parent whose 8-year-old son, EJ, has faced extraordinary challenges since suffering a traumatic brain injury at the age of three. If EJ’s injury had occurred just two months earlier, it would have been classified as cerebral palsy, granting him access to more funding and support. Instead, the diagnosis of traumatic brain injury has limited the resources available to Katie and EJ, making their journey even more difficult. Despite these obstacles, Katie has worked tirelessly to provide EJ with every opportunity for growth and independence.
A year and a half ago, EJ received a motorized wheelchair that has opened up a world of possibilities for him. He’s been gaining newfound independence and confidence, exploring his environment in ways that were previously impossible. However, the family’s current car isn’t equipped to transport EJ’s wheelchair, which means he can only use it at school. As EJ grows—now nearly 90 pounds—it’s becoming increasingly hard for Katie to lift him in and out of his car seat and wheelchair, putting a significant strain on her back and limiting their ability to go places together.
We’re raising funds to help Katie purchase a wheelchair-accessible van. This van would allow EJ to travel to more places, relieve the physical burden on Katie, and give EJ the freedom and independence he deserves. EJ is an amazing boy who would love to experience more of the world in his new chair, and Katie is a devoted mom who never stops fighting for him. Please consider donating or participating in our upcoming fundraisers to support this deserving family. Your generosity can make a life-changing difference for EJ and Katie.
