My friend Clay needs some help to get back on his feet. He quit his job in 2005 to care for his dad full-time after he became ill. In addition, he was a single father raising his son, Landry. Clay's dad passed away in 2020, leaving him and Landry with very little money left.
Landry suffered from major depression and other issues and finally took his own life in 2022.
Clay focused all of his efforts on his dad and son and didn't take care of his own health. He has diabetes, which has led to severe neuropathy in his feet, keeping him from being able to drive.
Clay found himself on the brink of eviction in May, but money was raised and donated to get him to November. However, he is now without any money, a place to stay, and has been hospitalized as of last week. He is having several tests run and is on 24-hour psychiatric watch due to his severe depression. He will probably spend some time in the psychiatric hospital once he is released. I am a therapist and feel that dear Clay has never recovered from the loss of his son and never had the ability to reintegrate into the "job" life due to being a caretaker for so long.
Clay turns 62 in 3 months, which will give him access to a small early retirement check ($900/mth). At that time, he may qualify for low-income housing.
He could use your help in bridging the gap until he has access to his retirement.
