Support Memorial Play!

My name is Sydney, and I am self-producing a short play I wrote in collaboration with The Tank for their Moonlight Series!

My play, Memorial Play (a Rube Goldberg Machine), is a very personal and experimental piece which examines the nature of mourning the memory of someone you don't know, and the ethics of trying to tell their story. The play centers around a real memory from my childhood, but takes wild departures from reality, as the subject of the story adopts the identities of various mythical and classical figures, exploring the symbolism behind their deaths. Memorial Play is being fully staged and performed on March 19, at 9:30pm, in The Tank's 98 Theater space.

I have a wonderful creative team who have agreed to help me realize my play onstage — Tessa Bagby (Director), Gabe Whitnack (Designer/Technician), Eli Wassertzug (Actor), Alice Downer (Actor), Maddie Brigman (Actor), and Miles Harrison (Photographer). However, because I am not working as part of a larger company, I have taken on the role of producing the play — including marketing, scheduling, and coordinating with rehearsal spaces, The Tank, and my team. This involves a few necessary costs which are difficult for me to cover alone, as an independent artist.

I believe in using only what's necessary, and making the most of the resources you already have around you, and hope to produce this play on a very limited budget. We are working very hard to get this play off its feet with what we have, but there are still some outstanding costs that cannot be avoided. Your donation will go towards covering the cost of rehearsal spaces and a few necessary props, which I am currently covering out-of-pocket. It will also help ensure that the maximum amount of money generated from ticket sales can go directly to the creative team, rather than being allocated to help cover production costs.
