Hi, my name is Raquiza, and my husband and I are currently living in Albury, NSW, Australia on international student visas.
Seventy days after our daughter Aiah was born, now recently one year old Aiah was diagnosed with a rare and life-threatening liver disease called Biliary Atresia. This condition has no cure, and the only initial treatment is the Kasai procedure, which unfortunately has only about a 25% success rate.
At first, Aiah’s Kasai operation seemed to help, but now her condition has worsened, and the only option for her survival and quality of life is a liver transplant.
Because we are international students in Australia, Aiah is not eligible to be placed on the Australian liver transplant waiting list.
As a result we may need to return to our home country, the Philippines. However, liver transplants are not performed in the Philippines for infants, so we have been informed that we will need to travel to India for the surgery.
As international students, it is already challenging for us to manage basic expenses like groceries, rent, study fees, and medical bills.
The cost of Aiah’s treatment and the upcoming transplant is far beyond what we can afford on our own.
This is why my husband and I are humbly seeking help and support from you. Any support — financial, emotional, or otherwise — would mean the world to us during this extremely difficult time.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story.
