Help Andrew finish his MBA in London

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Andrew, thanks for stopping by my page. I am currently an MBA student at the University of London, and I need your help.

I am starting this fundraising page to help pay for my university fees. Any money raised above the goal will be used for living expenses and creating online content around finances and investing in order to give something back to the community.

So, a little bit about me: I’m a South African immigrant to the UK, I’ve been here for around 2 years. I was previously a concert pianist but decided to change careers and move into the world of business! I have performed in concert halls from Europe to the USA and, of course, in South Africa.

I have always been into fitness, even becoming a certified personal trainer. I also love languages and am currently working on my fourth language, French. I spend much of my free time trying to learn new things and I am also teaching myself Python programming.

My time in the UK has been incredibly challenging, not only adapting to the new cultures around me but also starting completely from scratch with limited funds. Although up until recently I have been managing to some degree. Since the pandemic began the struggle has been real.

I want to move into the financial industry, specifically working for hedge funds, venture capital firms, or private equity firms. This led me to go back to university in 2019 to do an MBA which I am about halfway through at the moment. I have managed to pay thus far thanks to my parent’s help and some money that I had saved up already.

With the coronavirus pandemic, the financial pressure has risen substantially on my family and me. My parents still live in South Africa and the exchange rate between the UK and SA has always made things difficult but now, in the current climate, it is even more so.

My ability to work has severely hampered by the pandemic, and although I have a part-time job, I only earn enough to cover some of my bills. I have no way of paying for my next year of study.

Also, being a foreign resident here, I am unable to make use of scholarships and bursaries offered by the university.

This is why I need your help.

Why I want to study for an MBA

Since I want to enter the competitive world of finance, I believe that an MBA is necessary to give me the solid foundation needed for understanding the various forces at play which affect different types of investing from stock trading to real estate, foreign exchange, and more. This MBA, offered by the University of London, also gives me a specialty option and which allows me to specialise in finance. Having this degree will place me in the perfect position to pursue a graduate or entry-level position in a hedge fund, venture capital firm, or private equity firm.

Why do I want to work in finance?

I enjoy looking at both the macro (global economic developments) as well as the micro (intra-company dynamics) which leads to the thrill of analysis and speculation of their effect on securities trading. There are so many variables to consider and a wide variety of areas to explore when searching for good investments. I am never bored in this field and I want to learn as much as I can to be a successful hedge fund manager and investor.

This is also a field that will give me the financial ability to help my parents move over to the UK. I would love to have my family closer as I have no other family in the UK. To have a support system here would do wonders for my mental health and happiness. This desire is a big factor in my drive to succeed.

What are my future plans once I have graduated?

Initially, my plan will be to return to London and to begin working in either a hedge fund, private equity firm, or similar to gain hands-on experience while continuing to enrich my knowledge of various markets and their investment opportunities in my spare time.

Eventually, my goal will be to start my own investment firm or hedge fund with options for not only the ultra-rich, companies, and governments but also for the wider public. I believe that the above-average returns shouldn’t be reserved only for people and organisations of a high net-worth.

It is also my goal to educate people regarding investments and personal finance because the public education system fails to do this at all and there are many scam-artists posing as experts on social media these days.

My other hope is to attach a foundation to my company which can benefit from a portion of the revenue and use this to engage in charitable pursuits throughout the world.

These are very long-term goals but to get there I need to first graduate this degree in order to make my way into the industry.

The Cost

I have 4 more modules to complete as well as a dissertation within the next year. I am enrolled on a pay-as-you-go basis which means I pay for each module as I enter them. Each module costs £1345 and the dissertation will cost £2650. There are also fees involved in writing the examinations so I have set the goal at around £8500 which should cover everything I need.

Why you should help me?

I realise during this time there are many people struggling more with financial matters and I don’t expect anyone to give me something when they are unable to. Supporting me can be as simple as sharing this page with someone you may think can help.

I usually don’t like asking for help and I’ve come so far on my own with my family’s support but now I do need help. Supporting me in this endeavour will change both my and my family’s lives for the better in the future.

See the next section for one more reason.

What can I offer in return?

One of my goals is to share what I learn online in order to educate people about investments and other topics surrounding finance. I have already uploaded a few videos like this on my YouTube channel and I plan to do much more once the financial burden of my degree has been lifted. My hope is that you can also benefit from this.

I am also working on a course detailing various methods of analysis for long-term investors which will be available before the end of the year. If you make a donation to my cause, no matter how small, I will give you access to this course free of charge if you are interested.

Thanks for reading my story! I would be so greatly appreciative of any help you can offer me!
