Help Andrew Cordova & Family Focus On Recovery

After being hit in the the outer thigh with a helmet at football practice on Monday, August 19th Andrew began to feel some pretty intense pain. Thinking the pain was caused by a severe contusion Andrew tried to tough it out for another day. Come Tuesday night his thigh was swollen to twice the size of this other leg. His mother took him to the emergency room at Scottsdale Osborn where he was immediately taken back, examined and shipped off into his first surgery.
Andrew's mother was told that he had Compartment Syndrome which was causing the tissues and muscles in his leg to be constricted by the fascia surrounding them. The severe swelling can cause occlusion of blood flow as well as muscle and nerve damage. Left untreated it can also require amputation.
During the initial surgery the surgeon made two incisions on Andrews thigh, one medial and the other lateral. The plan at this point was to leave the incisions open to allow the swelling to occur as well as diminish.
On Friday afternoon Andrew was taken back into surgery to assess progress, where the surgeon was able to close the medial incision but had to leave the lateral open until the next scheduled surgery on Monday, August 26th.
In the interim, Andrew has to stay in the hospital where he can undergo physical therapy as well as other interventions such as the Hyperbaric Chamber (oxygen therapy) in an attempt to aide in muscle recovery.
Although he is in good hands and has a great medical team aiding him in his recovery hospital stays, three surgeries and expensive interventions can start to add up. Please consider donating any amount to help Andrew and his family focus more on him and his recovery rather than the stress of some overwhelming hospital bills.
