The Artist Alice Mattson - Leukemia & Autism Fund

This is Alice Mattson, she is now almost 9 years old and Autistic, an amazing artist, and at the age of 7 was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) – a kind of childhood cancer. With a large mass growing in her chest and obstructing her airway, and the cancer spreading through her system, she was transported to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin where they began treatment immediately.

From the moment Alice was released from the hospital in Milwaukee on May 4th, 2021, her father Jacob Mattson cared for her every need every day, working hard to make her as comfortable as possible and helping her cope with the many changes in her life.

While we are hopeful that she will reach remission and beat this cancer, the information available suggests that Alice will be continuing to battle Leukemia for at least 2-3 years.

We are so fortunate to have a strong support system, and we, Jacob and Alice Mattson’s family, have started this fundraiser to help alleviate the financial burden of caring for a sick child and the loss of income from not being able to work during this crucial time.

Because Alice is autistic, most of her medical care (appointments and treatments) are covered and some of the travel expenses get reimbursed, however, there are health and hygiene items needed regularly that are not covered – including sterile syringes for oral meds, chemo grade disposable gloves, incontinency pads, diapers and wipes, not to mention the basic living expenses that pile up when you can’t go to work – including rent, electricity, internet, phone, plus car insurance and repairs so he can get Alice to her appointments. 

In the coming weeks we’ll share more information about Alice and Jacob’s “new normal,” and the art they each create to make the world more palatable, but for now, these are some of the expenses we’re trying to help cover so that Jacob can focus on helping Alice get better and live her best life.
